Who is HealthSpring of Florida, d/b/a Leon Medical Centers Health Plans?

In 2007, HealthSpring Inc., entered into a partnership with Leon Medical Centers Health Plans to establish HealthSpring of Florida, d/b/a Leon Medical Centers Health Plans, a leading managed care organization operating a Medicare Advantage plan through a comprehensive provider network. Medicare Advantage plans are among several options available to Medicare-eligible beneficiaries in which they can elect to eliminate co-insurance, reduce co-payments, and receive additional benefits at no additional cost.

The Medicare Advantage plan offered by HealthSpring of Florida, d/b/a Leon Medical Centers Health Plans, is not a Medicare supplement. Medicare Advantage plans are approved by Medicare and managed by private companies like HealthSpring. Our plans are designed to encourage health maintenance by providing preventative exams, disease management programs, health club memberships, and transportation services to physician offices in addition to all of the benefits of Original Medicare. Our Leon Cares plan offers medical and Part D drug coverage.

Through HealthSpring’s partnership with Leon Medical Centers, more than 27,000 members in Miami-Dade County are offered healthcare services that are sensitive to the cultural needs of the Hispanic Medicare population. Leon Medical Centers has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious healthcare institutions in the state and has served as model for healthcare institutions locally, as well as nationally.

Since 1996 when Leon Medical Centers was established, the Leon family has served the healthcare needs of the Medicare population, providing them with superb medical care and offering “Personal Attention at All Times.” Benjamin Leon, Jr., an industry leader with more than 43 years experience, founded Leon Medical Centers, which soon became a leading health services provider and has helped improve the lives of seniors since its inception.

Under Mr. Leon's leadership, Leon Medical Centers has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious healthcare institutions in Florida and has served as model for healthcare institutions locally, as well as nationally. Mr. Leon envisioned providing Leon Medical Centers’ patients with an even higher quality of healthcare that would help simplify the care each patient receives in order to better serve its Medicare patients. He has accomplished this through his Leon Medical Centers, which currently operate five state-of-the-art facilities in South Florida. With more than 1,200 dedicated employees, Leon Medical Centers offer a tightly integrated model of primary and specialty care services, a dedication to excellence, and an unequaled patient-centric approach to care that serves the ever-changing needs of its members.

The parent company of HealthSpring of Florida, HealthSpring, Inc., was founded by insurance industry veteran Herb Fritch. HealthSpring currently operates service areas in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Washington D.C. and has grown its total Medicare Advantage membership to more than 156,000 members.
